Complication – This global Airline Services provider was looking for ways to improve the competency and effectiveness of their Product Creation Project Managers, moving them from process stewards to true leaders and drivers of initiatives.
At inception – this team did not have quantifiable or qualifiable metrics on which to measure or coach their PM team, leading to a limited understanding of key expectations for the role, inconsistent means of measuring performance, and a lack of understanding about where specifically to invest in professional development. Additionally – the PM role had been marginalized to that of an administrator – leading to lackluster progress on key initiatives, low visibility and limited accountability.
Approach – To address the client’s need, Aspirent partnered with the client leadership to develop a core leadership curriculum – aligned to Aspirent’s leadership framework – and suite of offerings aimed at increasing the leadership competency, maturity, and Project Management capabilities of the PM team. Specific deliverables included:
- A series of 6 focused webinars/workshops providing in-depth exploration of core leadership traits + explicit application to project management.
- A tailored PM Assessment & Scorecard aligned to internal operating framework, and developed to quantitatively and qualitatively assess PM maturity and performance via ~27 metrics across 3 key domains; Experience, Leadership, and PM Competency
- A individualized 1:1 Coaching/Partner Program pairing each client PM with a Sr. Aspirent resource to discuss challenges, best practices, or situational handling
Results
Aspirent’s work with this client led directly to performance improvements for the client project, as exampled via stakeholder reviews. Popularity of curriculum resulted in 5x increase in audience, expanding the reach to other teams within the client’s organization, providing increased value based on initial investment.
Additionally, the client was enabled to more precisely target future professional development investments and quantifiably measure quarter-over-quarter performance of their PM team.
